Project: French Provincial Dining Room Set
French Provincial Dining Room Set
Finish: Matte Black | Pieces: Dining table, 6 cane-back chairs, china hutch, side cabinet | Source: Thrift / Estate Sale
Before
A worn French Provincial dining set in dated honey oak — beautiful bones, carved cabriole legs, and cane-back chairs, but desperately in need of a refresh.

The Process
The base, legs, chairs, hutch, and side cabinet were painted in a rich matte black chalk-style paint. The parquet tabletop was left natural to preserve its stunning inlay detail — creating a two-tone contrast that feels intentional and high-end. Brass hardware was kept and polished to add warmth against the dark finish.

Pro Tip: When working with cane-back chairs, use a dry brush technique and work the paint into the cane in thin layers to avoid buildup and cracking.
After
A dramatic, moody dining room set that looks custom — not thrifted. The full set includes the dining table, six cane-back chairs, a china hutch, and a matching side cabinet.
